In London, there is an important area, in the zona 0, where the buildings are property of the Duke of Westminster and he doesn ‘ t sale it in any case. In this situation, there is a special building: the US Embassy.
The american embassies in the world are owned (with legal right of title over them) by the american government so the american government wanted to buy it because this embassy was the only one without american goverment’ title of property.
So the american government gave a sale propousal to the Duke but he always said no.
After different attemps, the Duke said he will only sell the building if the american government return him his family property in USA which were illegal owned by american goverment.
Then, the american embassy studied it and founded that Duke’s family property was: Florida!!!!!
Interesting, don’t you think so?
“USA and Greit Britain: two countries separated by the same language”. I am quoting the words of a special man: John, the farmer. One of the best “anglos” in my Vaughan experience this summer.
During our one-to-one, he used to speak about interesting things and one of them is the following story, “some what“:
One year, at Chritsmas time, The Washington Post phoned to the English Ambassador to ask him what he wants for Chritsmas. The Ambassador said that the question was inappropriate and rejected any present from the american newspaper.
The Washington Post tried it many times more and, finally, the English Ambassador told him: ” I only want a little box of chocolates”.
A few days after the petition, The Washington Post published the following:
” The French Ambassador wants the world peace, the German Ambassador wants the end of the world hunger, the Italian Ambassador wants the end of the wars and, the English one wants a little box of chocolates”
It shows like the language is a difficult subject, inclusive, for people who use the same… so, for me, it´s very complicated or complex but I won´t lose hope to dominate it.
